ABOUT ABOUT

Due to the rising concerns around COVID-19, we are reverting back to zoom format for our January 13, 2022 program.

Title: Women in Giving

Panelists:

Julie Gibbs, Vice President - Development at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis

Mary Elizabeth Grimes, President - Marian Middle School

Katy Dowd Mutert, President - Spirit of St. Louis Women's Fund (Volunteer)

About the presentation: Over the years, the role of women in philanthropy has evolved dramatically.  Gone are days where the bridge group all gave $50 to their favorite charities and thought they were making a difference

Today, women are running major for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and have significant discretion over their own charitable dollars and understand the importance of influencing women to make meaningful gifts, both during and after their lifetimes.

Join us to discuss how some local organizations are tapping into these women donors and what strategies they have found that work and which ones may be ahead of their time.

Speaker bios:

Julie Gibbs is the VP of Development at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis and previously held the positions of Director of Major Gifts and Affinity Groups and Director of Women’s Philanthropy since she joined the staff in January 2014. Julie worked prior to that for four years at the Jewish Community Center (The J) handling Development and Alumni Relations for Camp Sabra. Before joining The J, Julie was Director of Development for five years at United Hebrew Congregation. She also previously worked at the Saint Louis Symphony for 10 years in marketing and development. Whether as a volunteer or professional, Julie has always enjoyed events and programs that foster community.  Julie is from St. Louis, although she “grew up” from 3rd grade to the middle of High School in Chicago.  She and her husband Ron have been married for 30 years and have two adult children, Matthew and Natalie.

Mary Elizabeth Grimes is a purpose driven and successful leader.  Becoming the president of Marian Middle School was a perfect match for her passion and skills. Working at Marian is her joy not her job. She is currently responsible for stewarding over 200 students from 5th grade through post-secondary education and beyond.

Marian Middle School now benefits from her previous experiences. Mary Elizabeth served as the State Director for the Greater Missouri Chapter of March of Dimes where she transformed the declining chapter into a sustainable and operationally efficient organization. She was also president of Forward Vision, Inc., a brand management consulting firm. She has served as the Director of Marketing for BJC Healthcare, Director of Development for Fair St. Louis; Executive Director of Elite International Sports Marketing and Management; Director of Sales and marketing with the St. Louis Sports Commission; and Account Executive at KMOV-TV/Channel 4.

Mary Elizabeth also finds time to serve on community boards like Explore St. Louis, Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School, Catholic Charities and the iHeartMedia Local Advisory Board.  She is also a member of Rise Collaborative, The Forum, Washington University Women’s Society and the Greater Missouri Leadership.  She graduated from Spelman College and earned an Executive MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University.
