The Secure Act: How nonprofits can take advantage of this new law and secure transformational gifts.

The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act (SECURE) was signed into law December, 2019. The SECURE Act marks the most significant change to retirement security since the Pension Protection Act of 2006. This presentation will outline:

What is the SECURE Act and how can it benefit nonprofits
How a Testamentary Charitable Remainder Trust works
How to discuss the impacts of the SECURE Act with donors and why a testamentary charitable remainder trust may be the perfect option for individuals with IRAs.

Russ Austin Bio

Russ Austin has over eighteen years of professional development experience working for national, local, and university nonprofits. In March of this year, Russ joined Washington University in St. Louis (Wash U) as the Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of the Office of Planned Giving. Before joining Wash U’s Advancement Office, Russ spent fourteen years as a development director for the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA), which is the fundraising organization for the University of Wisconsin. At WFAA, Russ was a development director for the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, The UW Carbone Cancer Center, the UW Department of Surgery, and finished as an Associate Vice President in the Office of Gift Planning. Russ has raised over $140 million in his nonprofit career. He has served on the boards of the Madison Area Down Syndrome Society (President), Foundation for Madison Public Schools, Avenues to Community, and the Madison Mayor Advisors Council and co-chair of the Verona Area School District’s Parents of children with 504/IEP Plans Advisory Council. Russ is a member of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, including both local chapters.
